Adidas is one of the world's leading producers of sports equipment and clothing. Along with that, the company invests in the development and promotion of cutting-edge technology products, such as adidas miCoach.

Adidas miCoach is a system of smart devices and software applications for tracking cross-country achievements during the training process. The system is designed for professional sportsmen (athletes, football players, etc.), as well as for sports and healthy lifestyle lovers.

The personal training system includes a Speed Cell sensor, a Pacer set, and a Heart Rate Monitor.

The system collects the following data:

  • Speed
  • Number of steps
  • Amount of calories burned
  • Duration of training
  • Distance traveled
  • Heart rate.

The devices connect to a computer (PC or Mac), including Wi-Fi synchronization, and transmit statistical data, allowing users to track their sports achievements and compile a training program.

a1qa was invited to provide comprehensive testing of the Adidas miCoach mobile application set.

The a1qa team had to test numerous communication protocols that were implemented by different distributed development teams in line with the continuous integration process. The specialists were in charge of identifying defects not only in independent modules but in the whole miCoach solution.

Adidas miCoach testing incorporated complex verifications of:

  • Desktop application miCoach Device Manager
  • iPhone Football application (localization testing)
  • iPhone miCoach running (localization testing)
  • miCoach application for iPhone
  • miCoach application for Android
  • miCoach application for Symbian
  • Speed Cell sensor
  • Pacer Set
  • Pulse sensor
  • PC / Mac Connector
  • iPhone / iPad Connector.
  • Functional testing
  • Localization testing
  • Mobile application testing
  • UI testing
  • Apple iOS
  • Android
  • Symbian OS
  • ANT+

Insufficient technical documentation:

  • The team conducted a detailed study of the application.

Non-intuitive interface:

  • The specialists performed usability and UI testing.

The application was non-compliant with country-specific parameters:

  • a1qa implemented localization testing.
